Too busy (by which I mean lazy) to write something new today, so I thought I’d toss out a short documentary I made back when we lived in Santa Fe.
I shot it at St. Michael’s Skeet, a little monastery out in the NM mountains. Gorgeous location. The doc features a hiermonk friend of mine discussing his conversion to Christianity. I won’t say much about it (once again, if I want to use words I use words, if I want to use images I use images, blah blah blah). I will say I found it so refreshing to hear such an “Eastern” style conversion story. I’ve seen more than a few charismatic thunder-and-lightning testimonies turn off people who, like me, prefer their religion a little less emotional and little more mystical, for lack of a better word. I like weirdo Christians, and the best of them are usually found at monasteries. (Come to think of it, I’ll have to share some monk stories some time. The beards alone call for volumes).

I enjoyed this and it intrigued me, leaving me wanting to see the rest! Thanks!
Agreed, Mike. I want more!
Beautiful. A touching testimony to the power of the body worshiping Christ and the church, ancient and universal. Also, very skillful direction! (No surprise there)
Nothing like monks for beautiful liturgy and for reading from the book of nature. I wonder which follows which.
